How our new bedding collection came to life

How our new bedding collection came to life

From the moment we place our first fabric order to the moment the new bedding reaches your bed, around six months pass. And during those six months, I manage to convince myself at least twenty times that we have chosen the wrong colours. :)

But let’s start at the beginning.

At Bedroommood, we plan two major fabric orders each year. First, we need to tell the factory how much sateen and how much percale we want. We usually order roughly equal amounts of both.

Just a reminder: sateen and percale are made from the same cotton – only the weave is different.

At this stage, it is still simply our raw material. We confirm the metres, the factory begins weaving and we move on to the part I find the most exciting:

What colours will you be sleeping in next season?

We cannot order small amounts of twenty beautiful colours and wait to see which ones you like. Our supplier dyes each colour only in large quantities, while the total amount of fabric we can order is limited.

That means we have around five spaces to fill. And we need to fill them very carefully. I follow interiors, fashion, outfits and colour. But a Bedroommood collection is never based on trends alone.

We have our foundations – MilkBeigeGrey and Olive.

Colours that continue to feel right year after year. Alongside them, though, we always want a little movement. Something unexpected.

A colour that transforms the entire bed.

A bed is much the same. After all, we do not change our bedrooms like jackets, we look at the bedrooms being designed today, because chances are they will still look much the same five years from now.

Lots of wood. Beige. Olive. Calm shades of grey. We look at beds, their covers and textures, curtains, cedside tables, accessories. Because your new bedding needs to look beautiful in your bedroom, not only in our photoshoot.

But interiors are not the only place I look for colour - I also pay attention to what we wear.

Which colours are appearing in capsule wardrobes? What do we want to put on? What makes us feel calm? What lifts our mood?

Right now, I see Navy everywhere. And I am already thinking about how much I would love to see it in the 2027 Bedroommood collection.

Because a colour we first welcome into our wardrobe often finds its way into our homes soon afterwards.

This is where our architect, Rūta, is always by our side.

And I am very grateful to her for it. I can fall in love with a colour. Rūta sees more – not a small piece of fabric lying on a table, but the entire bedroom.

The wood. The wall. The bed. The light. The other colours around it. We usually order samples of six to eight new colours. A handful of small fabric swatches arrives. And from those tiny pieces, we have to decide what will be lying on your bed six months later. It sounds a little mad when I put it like that.

New bedding colours in sateen and percale

This is one area where we make very few compromises. If you bought Bedroommood bedding three or five years ago, a pillowcase from the new collection should still work beautifully with it. I do not want us to launch something marked “NEW” and suddenly make what you already have at home feel old.

A new collection should never make the previous one look dated.

That is why every colour in the Bedroommood palette has to live happily alongside the others.

It is an important part of the sleep experience we create. You can build your bed gradually, introduce a new colour or change something, without having to start all over again.

My only personal rule is that I would not mix sateen and percale on the same bed. Not because you cannot. They simply create two very different sleep experiences, and each deserves to be enjoyed on its own. Like red and white wine. :)

Cotton bedding from the new bedroommood collection

The best example from this collection is Mustard.

Bright. Bold. Definitely not the safest choice. From the very beginning, Rūta has said: this is the cherry on top of the collection. I love it, although if I were choosing for myself today, I would probably still reach for Cashmere or Olive first.

Tomas is almost afraid of Mustard. To him, it feels like a risk. :) Then the girls vote. For Milda in accounting, Mustard is the best colour in the collection. Eglė abstains. :) Malvina says, “Noooo. I want Olive.”

And I love that so many different people have a hand in the final product. Not just me. Rūta, who sees the entire space. Tomas, who always reminds us about risk. The girls, each with their own taste. Our suppliers, weavers and seamstresses.

One set of bedding on your bed is the result of many people’s decisions and many pairs of hands.

And then we wait.

We approve the collection today. You will see it in around six months. And for me, this is the hardest part. Because during those six months, I see another hundred interiors, fabrics, colours and outfits. And the doubts begin.

I breathe my first sigh of relief when the large rolls of fabric arrive.

The second comes when the first finished pieces return from our sewing workshops. Because a tiny Pantone swatch and a fully dressed bed are two completely different worlds.

The third and most important moment comes when you finally see the collection. Because no matter how many people contribute to a Bedroommood collection, the final vote will always be yours.

And this time, there is one thing I would really love to hear from you: “I want every colour.”
